When to call right now

Not every issue requires a technician at 2 AM, but some do. Call the line above if any of these apply:

  • Outdoor temperature is below 40°F and the system cannot maintain temperature
  • You smell gas — leave the home immediately and call your gas utility first
  • Carbon monoxide detector is sounding
  • Anyone in the home is elderly, very young, or has a medical condition affected by cold
  • The heating system makes loud banging or rumbling when it tries to start
  • Repeated short-cycling — system ignites and shuts off within seconds

Frequently asked about heating repair

What's the difference between heating repair and furnace repair?

Furnace repair specifically covers forced-air furnaces (gas, oil, or electric). Heating repair is the broader category — covers furnaces, heat pumps in heating mode, boilers (hydronic), and standalone electric heating. If you're not sure which system you have, the local technicians in our network handle all of them.

Why is my heat pump blowing cool air in heat mode?

A heat pump's defrost cycle periodically reverses to clear ice from the outdoor coil — during defrost, the indoor coil is cool, so vents blow cooler air for 5-15 minutes. If that pattern continues for over an hour, the reversing valve may be stuck or the defrost board may have failed; call a technician.

Should I replace a 15-year-old furnace before it fails?

Depends on the system. Standard 80% AFUE furnaces typically last 15-20 years; 90%+ AFUE condensing furnaces around 15-18 years due to the heat exchanger stress from condensate. If yours is 15+ years old and the heat exchanger is original, ask a licensed technician to inspect for cracks during the next annual service. A cracked heat exchanger is the one finding that always triggers replacement.

Do you service boilers?

Yes — gas, oil, and electric boilers (hot water and steam). When you call, mention the boiler type and any visible issues (low pressure, leak, no heat to certain zones) so the dispatcher can route to a technician with the right parts.
